if youre wondering why im sewing all these tiny underwears and laying them on the floor its because i want all these spiders in my house to put them on. sick of them dragging their tiny spider dicks all over my clean floor
It’s that kind of self-initiative that’ll get you places. Not college, or a good job, but places.
I interviewed a young anthropologist working with women in Mali, a country in Africa where women go around with bare breasts. They’re always feeding their babies. And when she told them that in our culture men are fascinated with breasts there was an instant of shock. The women burst out laughing. They laughed so hard, they fell on the floor.
They said, “You mean, men act like babies?””
And even a bonus slide for any remaining queries:
Feel free to erase this bit here if you reblog, but I just wanted to explain why I made this. Very recently I got into an argument online with a white woman about a film that executed a white savior trope. I explained all the things I found problematic in the film and why I thought it was racist, and she told me that I was both nit-picking and white-shaming. I was also called a hypocrite and a racist (against white people).
I could see that this white woman was set in her willful ignorance, and that any further arguing would only make me more frustrated and her more self-righteous. So instead, I made this (lovely, if I can so myself) powerpoint rather than metaphorically bashing my head against a brick wall in continuing a conversation with her.
May this help you in all your efforts, even if it couldn’t help me in mine.
P.S. So I don’t know if someone has made a powerpoint for racism before (I’m sure someone has), but I haven’t seen one. Please link it to us if you have!
So to any followers who want to be educated, here you go. Happy??
Spread it far and wide!
there are so many people in my small town that could benefit from seeing this. (especially on facebook)
This is my favourite post. I would love to add some slides that make it less American centric because I just KNOW that if I show this to people here (in the UK) they’ll pick on that, despite the fact that being European or British doesn’t change the basic points except in details. For example, seeing as America is so new a country, slavery is what the country was BUILT on. Europe, although filled to the brim with slavery for about 300 years, is particularly guilty of colonialisation. The countries may not have been BUILT on slavery in its “initial” sense, but it sure as fuck built their empire and new cultural and financial set up on it. The other details relate to the examples given in terms of how racism is still fucking relevant that are slightly different in Europe. But you know, pointing fingers at a different country and saying “but look how much MORE racist they are” DOESN’T CHANGE THE FACT THAT THIS COUNTRY IS STILL FUCKING RACIST AND THAT REVERSE RACISM ISN’T A FUCKING THING.
There’s one more slide that I feel would really help me out because I get so hopelessly angry and give up when I get thrown this at me: “But what about countries where white people are a small minority and never experienced European colonialism? Doesn’t racism towards white people exist there, systematically? Like Japan, for example.” Help me out. What do I say to that? What can I say that isn’t WHITE PEOPLE WEREN’T ENSLAVED AND KILLED FOR THEIR SKIN COLOUR FOR CENTURIES THERE and HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF EURO-CENTRIC OTHERING IN EDUCATION without them saying “yeah but you’re eradicating systematic discrimination that takes place against white people and you just said yourself that that’s what racism is” and I just want to scream until somehow they magically have a switch flicked in their head and they suddenly understand what the fuck they’ve just said but unfortunately that doesn’t work *throws computer against wall*.
This is brilliant.
